CurL: Challenge ur Limits

Challenge ur Limits (CurL) is a special project brought to you by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Welfare Services Club (WSC). The Welfare Services Club is an associate member of National Council of Social Services (NCSS) with over 500 NTU student volunterrs actively involved in diverse areas of community work. Besides providing weekly regular services to 11 welfare organisations, the Club also undertake special projects such as CurL, to promote unconventional means of volunteerism. WSC was the recipient of the Singapore Youth Award 2006 (Medal of Commendation) as well as the President's Social Service Award 2008 (informal group category) for sustained efforts in community service.

CurL's main objective is to create opportunities for beneficiaries and volunteers to interact and participate in exciting activities which will challenge both their mental and physical limits. CurL also aims to reach out to people without prior volunteering experience, thus serving as a platform for them to embark on future volunteering activities.

For the upcoming project, our beneficiaries and volunteers will be involved in decorating and making kites. By giving them opportunity to decorate the kites, we allow the beneficiaries to express their creativity and challenge their mental limites as making and decorating kites require a high level of patience. At the same time, flying a kite requires a certain level of co-ordination skills, this challenging the physical limites of the beneficiaries, especially the intellectually disabled.

Due to the confidentiality of our beneficiaries who are the intellectually disabled, I didn't really want to take close up shots of any. Marina Barrage is a beautiful place, I just wish it wouldn't turn so quickly into a tourist hot spot and lead to over population. It was said that our event alone had 200 odd people. The weather was so hot on Saturday that I was so confident of subliming if I stood in the sun for all 9hrs. Fortunately, we had access to the air-con rooms :) More photos up at fb, didn't really have the chance to snap away as we were always on the go, moving things.

Considering the fact that it was raining heavily on friday and sunday, but saturday was sooooo hot, it may be God's grace after all.

i left my footprints (:
